One of the ways that a lot of webmasters make money with their websites is through the means of email marketing. Email marketing is when you sell a service or product or just want to get return traffic to your website. We have all seen those little sign up forms on website that say something like, "Free Newsletter". These news letter forms are a way for webmasters to build up a list of email recipients that want to get email from them. In a lot of cases ou will see some webmaster offer a free ebook or something to entice the reader to sign up.

The great thing about lists is that over time you build up an entire network of readers who are wanting to read up on what it is that you have to say. In a lot of cases these are the people who will end up buying something that you have for sale, whether is be books, information or just stuff.

Auto Responders

Ever signed up for a news letter or something and got a confirmation email? Of course you have. Then the following day you got another email from this same website mentioning whatever it is they are about? These messages are called "auto-reponders". They are messages that go out every so often after signs up to your email list. It is a way of staying in touch but it has been proven that by doing this you have that person attention.
Let's say that you are selling ball gloves. Someone signs up to your new letter and then the next day he or she gets an email talking about a special kind of ball glove. Then the next day that same person gets another email talking about another kind of ball glove and it's on sale. That is how auto responders work. They are a way of staying in touch automatically.

Most email providers will have an auto responder that you can pre-write your messages along with allowing you to set the time to be send , say every 24 hours or every 48 hours or even once a week.
